During the last days of the fighting, fighters of the Magellan Commando Unit made their first operational use of a "steel sting", an innovative weapon, and used it to attack a launching post of the Hamas terrorist organization from which launches were carried out towards Israeli territory.

A "steel sting" is a double-guided mortar shell that enables precise strikes on terrorist targets in built-up areas, while increasing the lethality of hitting and reducing the risk of harm to non-involved civilians.
According to the commando division commander, Colonel Omer Cohen, "Thanks to the precision, lethality and expertise of the fighters, the Magellan unit, in cooperation with the Air Force, foiled dozens of terrorists by a variety of means, one of which is the precision mortar 'Steel Sting.'

"From the beginning of the war, the commando formation fought fiercely against the brutal attack of the enemy and eliminated more than 100 terrorists in the Gaza envelope. Magellan, Walnut and Cherry units - regular and reserve - will reach wherever necessary and to any enemy, and eliminate him. Together we will win, I trust our fighters and trust them."
